About us

How the name of our barangay got its name are derived from major situations.

1. Geographical Location
2. Biological Abundance
3. What we have and are know for
4. Honor & Tribute to a rich and influencial person

The tiny settlement of Mantuyong got its name from an intelligent and energetic leader of the people then. He was named Mantu, an ancient Cebuano title for an intelligent and progressive man. Mantu and his early settlers lived and established their tenement huts on the banks of a rippling creek, almost surrounded by marshes, mangroves and bakhaw trees. Inspite of his inborn intelligence, he was always longing to be in school to broaden his knowledge for the welfare, benefit and progress of his people. But there were no schools yet in our town.

From maturity to old age, the natives loved Mantu like their own father. They respected and held him in high regards. In manifestation and proven tribute to Mantu, they called him Uyong, an ancient Cebuano addressing a man held in high respect. And thus after the death of their great leader, MANTUYONG.
